The territory of Bessin Seulles et Mer

is composed of 11 towns and villages. It includes, along the coast, Arromanches-les-Bains, Saint-Come-de-Fresné, Asnelles, Ver-sur-Mer, Graye-sur-Mer and Courseulles-sur-Mer, and in land, Bazenville , Meuvaines, Crépon, St. Croix-sur-Mer and Banville.

 

A little geography:

The towns and villages of Bessin Seulles et Mer located between Bayeux west (10 km) and the southeast of Caen (19 km) and bordered by the Channel sea at the north, are part of the country of Bessin. It now refers to the area of Bayeux, located in the north-west of Calvados (department of Lower Normandy). The Bessin is surrounded to the west by the Cotentin, on the south by the Bocage virois and to the east by the plain of Caen.

A land of history...

The Allied landings on the beaches of Normandy on June 6th , 1944 was decided by Roosevelt and Churchill in Washington and Quebec in May 1943. This military operation called Overlord initiated the first phase of the liberation of France and contributed to the end of World War II (1939-1945). Sites "memories" of events such as Arromanches-les-Bains were thus made ​​history.
